Hesse, a state in the heart of Germany, is characterized by a diverse biocultural landscape. From the wooded low mountain ranges like the Taunus and the Vogelsberg to the fertile valleys along the Rhine, Hesse offers a wide range of habitats for a variety of plant and animal species. The flora is marked by deciduous and coniferous trees in the forests, as well as typical Central European plants such as beeches, oaks, and chestnuts. The fauna includes a variety of species, including deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, and various bird species like woodpeckers and owls. The people of Hesse have developed a close relationship with nature over the centuries, reflected in traditions such as the preservation of orchards and the protection of nature reserves. Despite challenges from land use, urbanization, and climate change, the protection and preservation of this biocultural diversity remain crucial for the future of Hesse and the well-being of its residents.
On Monday morning, the Taunus presented itself in a fashionable cloud dress. 🌫🌫 The left mountain is the Altkönig ("Old King"). Around 400 BC, the Celts settled there. Remains of the settlement and several ringwalls can be visited. It's the third highest mountain in the Taunus (798 m). The right mountain ist the Großer Feldberg ("Great Field Mountain"). On its top you can see the Feldberg/Taunus transmitter and the observation tower. It's the highest elevation of the Taunus mountains and of the entire Rheinish Massif (879 m). There, too, you will find interesting traces of the past. For example, there are parts of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes and other significant remains of the Romans. You can also visit the Brunhildisfelsen ("Brunhild's Rock"). This name is said to go back to the legend of Sigurd, as there Brunhild once said to have been put to sleep by Odin. Sigurd fulfilled the requirements to wake her up again.

Roger The Red Horn Rhino. It works as a circus clown, although it would rather roam the savanna. It makes people laugh because it's so sad. That's why it's very successful. 🎪
The Receiver. One of my doodles from 2012. I didn't really think about it, but just let my mood run wild. The doodles arose without thoroughness. I like to do that to create absurd scurrility. I have a lot such scribbles, a few thousand. They live a miserable existence, nobody looks at them. You are the first to see them.

Great house spider, Eratigena atrica 🕷💕 When someone asks me to identify a spider, it's usually the great house spider. With a size of up to 2 cm, it's the largest spider found in German houses. It's pretty nimble: 50 cm per second! The bite can cause a light swelling, but they don't bite without being provoked. By the way, the wasp spider is even bigger than the great house spider (up to 2.5 cm). But those can only be found in nature.
Common crab spider, Xysticus cristatus 🕷💕 She came to my apartment because it's getting cold outside. I gave her a lesser mealworm. We can become good friends! 😊
