Sloth fur harbors a diverse ecosystem of insects and algae including some species which are exclusively found in sloth fur. They are living in symbiosis, each species benefits from the other. The sloth moth eats the algae, the algae lives from the moth feces. The algae supplements the sloth's nutrient-poor diet of leaves.

Without analysis of the genital tract, you can't determine the species clearly. Even then it's difficult. In Germany are living three different species, which together form hybrids. (08/2017 in Oberursel, Germany)

I breed this species since 2004. It is nutritious, easy to care for and easy to reproduce. I've created different breeding environments to gain insights. Unfortunately, I've developed an allergy to these animals, so for the most part I've to house them separately in the basement. But a few I still let live with me so I can watch them.
