They are produced exclusively by plants, as carotenoids are important for photosynthesis. The most well-known carotenoid is beta-carotene found in carrots. However, flamingos cannot make use of carrots and shine in vibrant colors because they absorb special carotenoids in highly concentrated forms, for example, from crabs, which in turn feed on algae. Algae from the genus Dunaliella are extremely rich in pigments. For flamingos, their appearance is necessary for survival: without the right feather color, they do not attract potential mates, and there is no offspring.

☺️🧡 Beta-carotene also offers health benefits for humans. It binds free oxygen radicals and neutralizes carcinogenic substances. When the skin contains a lot of beta-carotene, it is better protected against UV radiation. It does not redden as quickly. Furthermore, it acts as a provitamin, a precursor to vitamin A - not only important for vision but also for the immune system and the communication abilities of nerve cells. There is no need to fear an overdose of beta-carotene. Only as much beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A as the body needs. Anything beyond that is stored as a pigment in the skin and subcutaneous fat tissue.

🥕🧈 A common misconception is that carrots must always be consumed with fat. This is only partially true. While fat is necessary for the carotenoids to dissolve, it is sufficient to have consumed something fatty beforehand, as it will meet the carotenoids in the digestive tract (fat is digested slowly and often remains in the intestines for several hours).

🌞🚴‍♂️ Today there was beautiful sunshine. It's a bit chilly at 5 degrees Celsius, but that doesn't matter. A bike ride is always fun. I cut my hair yesterday. I've been doing it myself since 2011, but now only a short haircut is acceptable anyway, because everything else looks really sick when you lose hair. I'm sitting here at the riding arena in Bommersheim - the largest horse village in Hesse. There are often riding events here at the weekend. I gave my bike the nickname Bikephalus, after Alexander the Great's famous horse Bucephalus. This horse, like me, had to learn to overcome its shadow.

I hope I'm not giving you too much to digest with my posts. My creative activities have always gone through different phases. That's because I need variety, and this year I've put a stronger focus on philosophy and knowledge, whereas in previous years it's been much more emotional and I've been more free in my means of expression. That's also reflected in my private life. This year I somehow haven't had any real interest in romance. I haven't traveled at all. In fact, this year I've only given my phone number to one nice woman. Yes, dear Tatiana, you really are the only one who managed to do that this year. 😅

But even this episode, which may seem boring, will pass. There are simply times when you prefer to grow through other things, but that doesn't mean that my spirit has evaporated. In fact, I've shed a lot of baggage as a result of my intensive engagement, even if it has affected my good mood at times.

In my last post, I talked about the reactions I’ve had because of my ADHD. Even today, almost twenty years after I first found out I have ADHD, I still face similar issues. My own family used to treat me like I was mentally ill. My half-brother and my cousin, who I almost never had contact with, deliberately reached out to people I knew to tell them about 'my illness' and supposed drug use. I was pushed away, both socially and by my own relatives. That was about ten years ago. It wasn’t that they directly said, 'We don’t want you anymore!,' but they treated me with so little respect and decency that I felt I had to distance myself to protect my self-worth. That was the smartest decision of my life, and I encourage anyone in a similar toxic situation to consider doing the same. I find my happiness and contentment within myself, in nature, and with all the kind people who give me hope.

Not only was that extremely hurtful, but it also caused lasting damage to my reputation, because it obviously carries weight when people who are supposedly close to me make such claims. Even today, I can still counter such allegations. That's why it's important to be careful with such claims.

ADHD often comes with a lot of positive traits, like thinking in unconventional and flexible ways, and yes, I can even use my impulsiveness in a good way. While I might not be able to go to bars or other crowded places with too much sensory input, you can have a wonderful time with me in nature or enjoy some creative fun. I might not be able to do every job, but what I can do, I do really well. My self-worth has never depended on what others think of me, and that’s exactly why I’ve often clashed with people. Even in school, people tried to make me believe I had low self-esteem because I didn’t follow the crowd. But by not doing so, I actually showed the opposite of what they tried to project onto me. Life is too beautiful to waste it on feeling ashamed for others. If you meet me in the tall grass, get ready to be tackled! 🌾👀🌿

That's how wrinkles form. And I think it's beautiful. ✨️ The special effect of my smile is that it is always a little crooked.😁 My upper teeth are super straight and close together, but my upper jaw is not straight like most people's.

That's because I had braces as a teenager, but not until the end of the procedure. My orthodontist told me that everyone would laugh at me because of it. But actually, I have only received positive reactions to my smile my entire life.🌞

I think a smiling face that also includes the eyes looks more natural and friendly. It strengthens the facial muscles and contributes to a healthy and lively expression.

I allow the pain and analyze. Vulnerability is not weakness. No compensation/repression through work, alcohol, drugs or sex. I think about how I myself worked towards the end of the relationship in order to learn from it for the future. I know that 90 percent of all justifications are just pretexts and in reality there is almost always another problem causing it. I know I can't control everything. I know that people are not static, but that certain situations can promote toxic behavior patterns (self-protection). That's why I have no problem with entering into a binding relationship again afterwards. The strength to face your feelings, process what you've experienced and look forward gives me power - over myself. That's why I don't listen to people who advise me to stop thinking about it. I don't live in the past just because I face it. On the contrary: I live in the present, where it is a burden, and work on my future - without this burden.

The picture shows me in the 90s in front of the entrance to our former house in Saxony. It was part of a former manor "Rittergut Schilbach". Surrounded by wet meadows, forests and abandoned buildings, I experienced different adventures every day. I had a dictaphone, which I used to record songs from the radio, a BMX, which I attached the dictaphone to and many "catch boxes" to catch and observe animals. I had something like a sixth sense and knew exactly which stones I had to lift. I reflexively reached into the deep grass and had a mouse in my hand. I dug a vole tunnel and a least weasel stared at me. I hugged trees and hoped that aliens would come and get me. I had three TV channels, very few friends but a Commodore 64. And lots of books. My parents rarely explained anything to me, but always challenged me to find out for myself. I really wanted to master an instrument, but I was too stupid for it. At school I always played the triangle. I was always terrible at sports, but I could dash through the thicket like a jungle mowgli and stand on the handlebars of my bike while riding. I had a tree house without walls but with an elevator (a large bucket on a rope). There were magical places that felt different. Terrible things were happening at the same time, but I was always laughing and looking at life as an adventure. I keep this strength, this eternal child, because we are reborn every day in an unknown world.🌌🌠
